D’Angelico Guitars Debuts the Deluxe Bobby Weir 3
A Road-Tested Artist Signature Model
D’Angelico Guitars announces an all-new signature model with long-time collaborator and legendary guitarist Bobby Weir. The Deluxe Bobby Weir 3 is the direct result of years of product development and onstage experience, having been road-tested in different iterations for years, on tour with Wolf Brothers and Dead & Co, most recently all throughout Dead & Co’s residency at the Las Vegas Sphere.
This model marks the third D’Angelico signature model made in collaboration with Weir, following the success of the original Deluxe Bob Weir SS and Deluxe Bob Weir Bedford, each of which had Premier Series counterparts also available.
Bobby Weir is one of the founding members of the legendary Grateful Dead. Since establishing the band in 1965, Weir has become one of rock’s finest and most distinctive rhythm guitarists. |
“I’ve been on an endless quest to find a tone that makes me really sit up and beg,” says Weir. “I don’t remember where it was, but I was on stage at a soundcheck. I plugged it in, cranked it up, and said this is it—this is what I’m looking for. I knew it.”

The Deluxe Bobby Weir 3 is a robust semi-hollow offering a huge variety of unique tones. Pairing a sleek body shape with two custom TV Jones “DA-Tron” humbuckers and a wiring configuration that allows access to both inner and outer coil pairings via push-pull knobs, players can conjure Weir’s notoriously slinky tones while also developing their own original sound. An ebony fingerboard caps a remarkably comfortable slim C-shape neck, while a smooth neck transition and deep cutaway allow for easy access to higher frets. Additional premium features include Jescar fretwire, a custom D’Angelico Shield tremolo, and locking tuners from Grover. Designed to offer the perfect balance of airy warmth and Weir's long-sought “clang of cold steel”, the Bobby Weir 3 is an undeniable tonal powerhouse.
“Bobby is forever driven to go deeper and deeper into the mystery that is great guitar tone,” says Ryan Kershaw, EVP of Product Development. “Over the years, we’ve been incredibly fortunate to join him on his never-ending journey, and I’m thrilled with the results that we got this time around. There’s no doubt that this is our best work yet—I hope it’s an inspiration to many players.”
A limited edition run of only ten hand-signed guitars is now available for purchase through select authorized dealers, only in the USA. Or, join the waitlist here to be the first to hear about the release of the upcoming standard production run.
Two guitars will also be up for auction through long-time charity partner, Headcount, a non-partisan organization that uses the power of music to register voters and promote participation in democracy. Headcount has partnered with Dead & Co and Reverb to host Participation Row, a social-action village and series of charity auctions for all previous Dead & Co tours, and is activating again at the Sphere.
