"I hadn't listened to the whole album in 40 years." Nick Mason on Pink Floyd's 'Animals 2018 Remix – Dolby Atmos.' Out Today!

Pink Floyd fans rejoice! The legendary group's groundbreaking album, 'Animals', has been reimagined and is now available like never before. Released today, Pink Floyd's 'Animals 2018 Remix – Dolby Atmos' is available on Blu-ray and digitally, offering listeners an unprecedented auditory experience.

For the first time ever, this iconic album is presented in Dolby Atmos, a format that takes the immersive listening experience to new heights. Imagine the tracks "Pigs (Three Different Ones)", "Dogs", and "Sheep" surrounding you with unparalleled clarity and depth, making you feel as if you are inside the music. James Guthrie's masterful remix reveals details in the album that even the most dedicated fans will find surprising and delightful.

Originally released in January 1977, 'Animals' is Pink Floyd's tenth studio album. The first recorded at the band's own Britannia Row Studios in London, the album was a critical and commercial success, peaking at number 2 in the UK and number 3 in the US. Created by band members David Gilmour, Nick Mason, Roger Waters, and Richard Wright, the album marked a significant evolution in Pink Floyd's sound and lyrical focus.

'Animals' is a superb concept album that addresses the socio-political conditions of mid-1970s Britain, using animal allegories inspired by George Orwell's 'Animal Farm'. The album's narrative remains relevant today, reflecting societal issues that continue to resonate. The songs depict different classes of people as animals: pigs at the top, sheep as the mindless masses, and dogs as the power-hungry executives.

This new release isn't just about sound. The album artwork has been reimagined for the modern era by Aubrey' Po' Powell and Peter Curzon, featuring the iconic pig floating between the chimneys of the Battersea Power Station. The artwork, presented in a digipak with a 16-page booklet, a sticker, and a postcard, includes stunning projections and graphics that bring a fresh perspective to the historic building.

To celebrate the release, a special playback event was held at the redeveloped Battersea Power Station — now a shopping centre and high-end residential/office complex. Guests, including media and select invitees, experienced the new Dolby Atmos Mix in the Cinema in Turbine Hall B. Aubrey' Po' Powell and Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason were present, sharing fascinating insights and anecdotes about the album's creation.

Powell recounted the simplicity and audacity of the original album cover shoot, where a £200 deal allowed them to fly an inflatable pig between the chimneys of the then-decommissioned power station. Nick Mason shared his thoughts on revisiting the album after 40 years, noting the sophisticated melodic structures and the dark, introspective nature of the lyrics and music. "I hadn't listened to the whole album in 40 years," Mason admitted, "but found it really interesting with so many elements that I'd completely forgotten about, like Rick's playing." Mason also added, "The melodic structure is far more sophisticated than I remembered," and commented on "how dark the record is, lyrically and musically."

In addition to the Blu-ray and digital formats, the 'Animals 2018 Remix' is also available on CD, LP (with gatefold artwork), SACD, and Deluxe Gatefold formats. The Deluxe Gatefold version includes LP, CD, audio Blu-ray, audio DVD, and a 32-page book, offering fans multiple ways to experience this timeless album.
