HoleyBoard 123 complete package Stealth Black

MSRP: (UK) £229 / (US) $TBC

Holeyboard offers a pedalboard experience unlike any other on the market, designed around the sole principle of being the easiest to use and most functional pedalboard around. With its unique hole mounting system, the Holeyboard is sure to change your guitar-playing world. Here's Nick Jennison with the full review.

The pedalboard renaissance has been extraordinary to watch. It's hard to believe, given the ubiquity of beautifully tidy Instagram-worthy boards these days, but even as recent as a decade ago, this level of neatness and luxury was reserved for touring professionals. Nerds like us would pour over those meticulous signal flow diagrams on guitargeek.com and dream of the day we'd be able to put together the kind of godly rigs that the big boys used, before contenting ourselves with an SD-1, a TU-2 and a DD-3, all running on batteries and connected each night with brightly coloured patch cables we bought out of a jar at our local guitar shop.

Fast forward to 2021, and every guitar player needs a gorgeous pedalboard to mount their carefully chosen little boxed of tonal devastation on. Enter the folks at HoleyBoard, with their rather ingenious take on what a modern board should look like. Eschewing the now-ubiquitous "rails" design in favour of a 2-tier board made of a single piece of metal but drilled full of holes. Why the holes, you ask? Well, first of all, they allow you to mount your pedals to the board easily using the included cable ties. This is a much more secure method than using hook-and-loop, and it also means you don't have to stick anything to your favourite pedals. Secondly, it means you can route signal and power cables through the holes, keeping them out of sight for a clean look.

Perhaps most interestingly, though, the holes mean that the HoleyBoard is expandable - and effectively modular! You can connect parts 1 and 2 in a variety of widths to suit your needs, and the flat, wah-friendly part 3 can be mounted on either side of the board - a godsend if you're a left-foot wah user like myself. It takes very little time to connect and disconnect the various parts, too, meaning you could take your entire board out with you one night and just your "must-have" pedals the next night by unscrewing parts 2 and 3.

HoleyBoard is a very unique and innovative take on a pedalboard, and offers some very distinct advantages over fixed, "rail" type boards. The raised top deck of pedals is easy to get to in the heat of battle, and you can scale the board to fit your current needs on any given day. If you're looking for your next pedalboard, this could be it!
