Prodipe Origin Design ST Atlantic Green | Review

I recently had the chance to spend some time with the Prodipe Origin Design ST in Atlantic Green, and I have to admit, it caught me off guard—in a good way. Straight out of the box, this guitar made a strong first impression. The fit and finish felt boutique-level, yet when you look at the price tag—€899—it quickly becomes clear that this instrument represents serious value for money.

Prodipe is a French brand, and while the components are manufactured in Asia, final assembly and quality control are handled in France. That combination seems to be working in their favour. The Origin Design ST is part of their more premium range, but even at that level it remains remarkably affordable.

Build Quality and First Impressions

Visually, the Atlantic Green finish paired with gold hardware is classy and distinctive. It manages to look modern without straying too far from traditional Strat-style territory. The anodized aluminium pickguard adds a subtle industrial touch, and overall the guitar feels thoughtfully put together.

The body is alder, which is a familiar and reliable tonewood choice for this style of instrument. Weight-wise, it comes in at around 3.5 kg. For me personally, that’s slightly on the heavier side for a Strat-style guitar, but not uncomfortably so. I’d happily use it on stage for an hour-long set without complaint.

The neck is one of the standout features. It’s a flame-roasted maple neck with a 12-inch radius and a standard 25.5-inch scale length. The roasted maple not only looks beautiful but feels stable and smooth under the hand. The traditional varnish on the flame-roasted maple fingerboard gives it a slick, comfortable playing surface. Out of the box, the setup felt clean and dialled in—low action, no sharp fret edges, and very easy to play.

Hardware is equally impressive. The Wilkinson oil-bath tuners feel solid and reliable, holding tuning well during extended playing. The bone nut is a welcome addition at this price point, contributing to tuning stability and overall tonal clarity. The Wilkinson two-point tremolo bridge, finished in gold, operates smoothly and returns to pitch reliably. It feels substantial without being stiff.

The guitar comes strung with Savarez Electric Hexagonal Explosion strings in a 9–46 mixed set. They felt well-balanced across the fretboard and suited the instrument nicely right from the start. It’s also worth mentioning that the guitar ships with a stylish electric guitar case, which adds further value to the package.

Electronics and Tone

The pickup configuration is classic SSS, loaded with Prodipe Alnico 5 single-coils. Controls are traditional: a five-way selector, two tone knobs, and one volume, fitted with CTS 250K potentiometers. On paper, it’s a familiar layout. In practice, it delivers.

Plugged in, the guitar immediately delivers that unmistakable Strat-style character. There’s a pleasing blend of vintage flavour and modern refinement. The low end feels tighter than many vintage-inspired Strats, with a slightly scooped quality that gives chords clarity and separation. Clean tones are articulate and balanced, particularly in positions two and four where the classic quack comes through nicely.

Although the pickups appear to be relatively low output, they respond well when pushed. With overdrive and distortion, they retain clarity and don’t become muddy. The bridge pickup cuts through effectively for lead work, while the neck pickup offers warm, rounded tones without losing definition. It bridges the gap between traditional and contemporary voicing rather well.

Overall Value

What stands out most about the Prodipe Origin Design ST Atlantic Green is how much guitar you get for the price. From the roasted maple neck and bone nut to the Wilkinson hardware and CTS electronics, the specification list reads like something from a higher price bracket.

I wasn’t previously familiar with Prodipe, but this instrument has certainly made me take notice. If this represents their premium offering at €899, it raises interesting questions about what their more affordable models might deliver.

For players looking for a professional-level Strat-style guitar without stepping into boutique pricing territory, the Origin Design ST Atlantic Green is well worth considering. It looks refined, feels solid, plays comfortably, and sounds convincingly “Straty” while offering a slightly more modern edge. At this price point, it’s difficult not to be impressed.
